A new sculpture at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens is honoring the life, art and legacy of Overland Park artist Jeffrey Hanson. 🌺
Growing Kindness was dedicated in Hanson’s honor, celebrating not only his incredible artwork, but the kindness and philanthropy that defined his life. Despite being visually impaired, Hanson became a nationally recognized artist and helped raise more than $7 million for charities through his work.
Mayor Curt Skoog, Jeff Hanson’s parents and other community leaders came together to dedicate the “Growing Kindness” in honor of Jeff’s life, art and lasting legacy in Overland Park.
What makes this especially meaningful for Overland Park is that his story and message of kindness will now have a permanent place in the community. Visitors can experience the larger-than-life poppy sculpture, learn about Hanson’s journey and see how one local artist used his talents to make a difference far beyond his own community.
It’s a beautiful addition to the Arboretum and another example of how art, local stories and shared spaces can help connect generations and inspire the people who call Overland Park home. We love seeing local legacies celebrated in ways the whole community can enjoy. 💛
