Public art, local pride, and a citywide adventure all in one. Parade of Hearts has become one of the Kansas City region’s most recognizable community projects, transforming neighborhoods, shopping districts, parks, and gathering places into an open-air art gallery.
Each heart tells a different story. Some highlight local history, others celebrate music, sports, nature, or cultural diversity. What makes the experience special is that the hearts aren’t tucked away in a museum. They’re woven into the places people already gather, shop, dine, and explore.
Whether you are a longtime Overland Park resident or visiting the area for the first time, the hearts offer a fun reason to get out, discover new places, support local businesses, and see the region through the eyes of local artists.
How to Experience the Hearts
One of the best ways to enjoy Parade of Hearts is to treat it like a summer scavenger hunt. Use the official map or app to locate hearts, check in at each stop, and discover nearby restaurants, shops, parks, and attractions. Many locations also feature special promotions and local happenings tied to the heart installation.
In Overland Park alone, eight hearts are waiting to be discovered.
The Overland Park Hearts

Ad Astra Per Aspera
By Tanya VanDillen
“My heart was created to embody the state motto, “Ad Astra Per Aspera” (“to the stars through difficulties”), specifically the way our global community must work together to continue to transcend the challenges of humanity. Cosmic imagery is joined by natural landscape on one side, and iconic buildings from the downtown skyline on the other, to represent both the unity and diversity of our metro area and the people who live there. An iconic Kansas City bridge in the center of the heart is visible from both sides, further symbolizing the way the cosmos can bridge the gap between cultures.”
Location: 7935 Santa Fe Dr, Overland Park, KS 66204

Beyond the Fairway
By Amanda Reece
“My sculpture design features an acrylic painting of a golfer on one side, captured in the moment just after hitting the perfect shot. At the base, a detailed putting green with a hole invites viewers to imagine the final challenge of the game, emphasizing precision and patience. On the opposite side, the sculpture is painted like a giant golf ball, its dimples textured and detailed, with a bold heart at the center symbolizing connection, community, and shared passion. Together, these elements celebrate not only the spirit of golf but also the strong sense of belonging and warmth that surrounds it in Kansas City. The entire piece will be painted in bright, saturated acrylic colors to create a vibrant, eye-catching tribute to the sport and the community it brings together.”
Location: 13500 Nall Ave, Overland Park, KS 66224

Festival of Connecting and Celebrating Cultures
By Michelle A. Davison
“What better way to show unity than by the city’s melting pot of culture brought together every year in an immersive fun-filled weekend at cultural festivals in KC. On one side of the sculpture shows performances, activities, and food we would experience. The other side presents a parade of flags, much like the parade of hearts, which shows the love and pride for our differences and what we celebrate in Kansas City.”
