Thinking about your business goals for next year? Get connected with the Overland Park Chamber.
As the year winds down, it’s a natural time to start thinking about what’s next. Maybe you’re setting new goals for your business, looking for ways to grow your network, planning for a new hire or simply looking for more opportunities to connect with the local business community. If you’re thinking about where to invest your time and resources in the year ahead, an Overland Park Chamber membership could be one place to start.
What Does the Overland Park Chamber Do?
At its core, the Overland Park Chamber exists to make Overland Park prosper. Its mission is to be the bold voice for business, serving as a resource, advocate, convener and changemaker that drives economic success forward in Overland Park, Johnson County and Kansas.
That means the Chamber’s work goes well beyond networking events. From helping businesses connect and grow to advocating for the business community and supporting Overland Park’s continued economic development, the Chamber works on several fronts:
Connecting Businesses: The Chamber brings businesses and professionals together through networking events, programs, professional development and opportunities to build relationships across industries. These connections can lead to new customers, partnerships, ideas and opportunities.
Advocating for Business: The Chamber serves as a voice for the business community at the local, state and federal levels. Through its Public Policy & Advocacy Committee, members help identify issues affecting businesses, develop policy platforms and inform the Chamber’s advocacy work. The Chamber’s government affairs team then works with elected officials and other stakeholders on those priorities.
Driving Economic Development: Through its Economic Development Council, the Chamber works to attract new businesses and investment while helping existing businesses grow and expand. That includes supporting business attraction and retention, workforce development, small businesses and entrepreneurs, and providing economic and demographic data that can help inform business decisions.
Supporting Talent & Workforce: A strong business community needs a strong workforce. The Chamber works with employers, educators and community partners on initiatives that help businesses find, hire and develop talent while strengthening the local workforce pipeline.
Together, these efforts help create a business environment where companies can connect, grow and contribute to the continued success of Overland Park. And the Chamber’s work doesn’t stop there. From professional development and leadership opportunities to community connections and resources for businesses at every stage, the Chamber offers a variety of ways for members to get involved and get more connected to the business community.
And it’s not just for large companies. The Chamber’s network includes businesses of all sizes and industries, giving members opportunities to meet people they might not otherwise encounter, learn from other business leaders and find new ways to grow.
What Can You Get From a Chamber Membership?
A Chamber membership can look different depending on what your business needs. For some, that might mean meeting other business owners and potential customers. For others, it could mean accessing professional development, getting involved in economic development, advocating on issues that affect their business or finding ways to promote their company locally.
Build your network. Members have a variety of opportunities to meet other professionals and businesses, including networking events, Young Professionals programming, Leads Groups, ribbon cuttings and other Chamber programs.
For iLabs, Inc., those connections were one of the first benefits they experienced.
“Since starting our journey earlier this year, we have experienced a great support system from the OP Chamber. Specifically, we were introduced to several local businesses during the first event of the year.” – Madham Subramanian, COO, iLabs, Inc.
Get involved in the business community. Membership can also open the door to deeper involvement beyond individual events, from serving on committees to participating in programs and initiatives that shape the local business community.
Support your business and your team. Through professional development, educational programming, workforce initiatives and other resources, the Chamber gives members opportunities to learn new skills, develop their teams and find support as their businesses grow.
Have a voice in public policy. The Chamber’s government affairs team and lobbyists advocate at the state and national levels on issues that affect the business community. For members, that means having an organization working on their behalf and keeping them informed about policy issues that could impact their businesses.
Be part of economic development. Members can also participate in the broader work of growing and strengthening Overland Park. The Economic Development Council brings together business and community leaders focused on supporting local businesses, attracting investment and shaping the future of the region.
For NvisionKC, that opportunity has meant becoming more deeply involved through the EDC.
“The Chamber has been a valuable connector for our team and we’re excited to deepen those relationships as an investor in the Economic Development Council. The EDC brings together business and community leaders committed to supporting local businesses, driving economic growth and strengthening Overland Park’s future. Being part of the EDC means being surrounded by leaders investing in the future of our region and we’re excited to support that mission.” – Grace Ahn, Founder & CEO, NvisionKC
Get your business in front of the community. Members can also take advantage of marketing and promotional opportunities, including a listing in the Chamber’s business directory, opportunities to share news through Chamber newsletters and social media, event sponsorships and more.
Whether you’re looking to build relationships, develop your team, advocate for your business, get involved in economic development or increase your visibility in the community, membership gives you multiple ways to participate based on what makes sense for your business.
