From creative takes on classic favorites to international flavors, special events and restaurants that are finding fun ways to connect with the community, there’s no shortage of places worth adding to your list.

We’re always looking for new places to try in OP, and lately, these five restaurants keep popping up on our feeds. Some are getting attention through creative collaborations, some are creating unique experiences that people want to share, and others have simply built a following by doing something a little different.

So we rounded up a few of the local restaurants we’ve been seeing all over our feeds lately. Consider this your sign to stop scrolling, pick a spot and go see what all the buzz is about.

KIWAMI Ramen & Sushi

There’s no shortage of ramen and sushi in the Kansas City area, but KIWAMI Ramen & Sushi has found some fun ways to stand out.

Located at 95th and Metcalf, KIWAMI serves signature ramen, sushi, bento boxes, fried rice, fried udon and more, with weekday lunch specials that make it an easy option for a midday meal.

And then there are the sushi tacos.

These aren’t your typical tacos. KIWAMI takes sushi ingredients and serves them taco-style, with options including salmon, spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, unagi and more.

The restaurant has also embraced the local food scene, inviting creators into the restaurant and hosting events that give people a chance to experience the menu and space for themselves.

Why it’s on our feed: Creative collaborations + sushi tacos + a menu with plenty to explore

What to try: Sashimi, Firecracker Roll, Sushi Tacos

Find it: 7305 W. 95th St., Overland Park

Burg & Barrel

If you’re a burger fan, chances are you’ve seen Burg & Barrel pop up on your feed. The locally owned restaurant has been serving burgers and brews in Overland Park since 2013, with a menu that puts plenty of creative spins on the classic burger.

The menu also includes sandwiches, wraps, salads and appetizers, along with daily specials that give you another reason to come back. And with TVs throughout the restaurant, it’s also a popular place to catch a game with friends. Their private room even has six TVs and a large projector for bigger viewing parties.

Burg & Barrel has also been named Best Burger in Johnson County in both 2024 and 2026, making it a pretty easy addition to our list.

Why it’s on our feed: Award-winning burgers + creative specials + a great spot for gamedays

What to try: Totchos (tater tot nachos), El Diablo Burger, Buffalo Bird

Find it: 7042 W. 76th St., Overland Park

KC Craft Ramen

Some restaurants trend for a few weeks. KC Craft Ramen seems to have figured out how to keep people coming back.

The Overland Park restaurant serves handmade ramen, dumplings and Japanese-style fried chicken, and there’s almost always a line out the door.

But what really makes KC Craft Ramen interesting is what happens beyond the regular menu. The restaurant regularly hosts special events and collaborations with chefs from Japan, creating limited-time dining experiences that give guests the chance to try something they won’t find on the everyday menu.

Past events have included collaborations with chefs from restaurants in Japan, one-day A5 Wagyu ramen events and a live 160-pound bluefin tuna cutting that turned dinner into a Japanese culinary experience.

It’s the kind of place where dinner can become an experience, which might explain why it keeps finding its way onto our feeds.

Why it’s on our feed: Special events + international chef collaborations + a loyal following

What to try: KC Bun, Spicy Miso Ramen, or attend a special event!

Find it: 6830 W. 119th St., Overland Park

Don Chuy’s Fresh Mex & Cantina

Don Chuy’s is one of those places that feels like it was made to be discovered, and lately, we’re starting to see more people catch on.

The family-owned restaurant opened its Overland Park location near 87th and Metcalf in 2025, bringing recipes rooted in León, Mexico to a colorful space with a menu that goes well beyond the typical Mexican restaurant lineup.

You’ll find everything from tacos, enchiladas and fajitas to ceviche, charcoal-grilled octopus, ribeye tacos, seafood and an extensive selection of tequila. Their Josper charcoal grill gives many of the dishes a smoky flavor, adding another element to the menu.

And then there’s the space itself. With colorful artwork, a vibrant atmosphere and plenty of eye-catching food and drinks, Don Chuy’s feels like the kind of restaurant that was made for your camera roll.

Don Chuy’s recent video showcasing the space and its atmosphere gave the restaurant another moment in the spotlight, and we’re curious to see if it becomes the next Overland Park restaurant you start seeing everywhere.

Why it’s on our feed: Incredible atmosphere + colorful, shareable food + a restaurant that’s starting to get more attention online

What to try: Molcajete Del Mar, Nachos the Lux, Margaritas

Find it: 8725 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park

Kolaches & Coffee

Sometimes all it takes is one person telling a good story.

Kolaches & Coffee has been serving hand-rolled kolaches and Colombian coffee from its Overland Park location since 2023, with a menu that includes both sweet and savory kolaches, coffee, empanadas and pastries.

But its recent social media story goes a little deeper.

Window Wolf’s Davis Roethler first visited Kolaches & Coffee and saw a business with great food that wasn’t getting the attention it deserved. He eventually began helping with the restaurant’s social media, sharing its story and introducing more people to the owners and their food. The partnership helped grow the restaurant’s social following and brought new customers through the door.

More recently, the closure of the Price Chopper that had served as an anchor for the shopping center created another challenge for the businesses nearby. Window Wolf has continued to shine a light on Kolaches & Coffee and its story, helping bring attention back to a local business that is still working to stay open and serve the community.

It’s a great reminder that sometimes the most powerful thing you can do for a local business is simply show up.

Why it’s on our feed: A great local story + community support + seriously good kolaches

What to try: German Kolaches, Joelho Empanada, Giant Cinnamon Pastry, Colombian coffee

Find it: 7214 W. 119th St., Overland Park

Why Social Media Matters for Local Restaurants

Social media has changed the way we discover where to eat. A short video can introduce someone to a restaurant they’ve driven past dozens of times, turn an unfamiliar dish into something they can’t stop thinking about, or give a local business the chance to tell its story to people who might never have found it otherwise.

And that’s part of what makes watching Overland Park’s restaurant scene unfold online so much fun. These businesses aren’t just serving food. They’re trying new things, creating experiences, partnering with local creators, inviting people into their spaces and finding new ways to connect with the community.

Of course, seeing a restaurant on your feed is only the beginning. The best part is getting out there and experiencing it for yourself.
