Families looking for a place to put down roots have one more reason to take a closer look at Overland Park. According to a recent report from Homes.com, Overland Park ranked No. 8 on Niche’s list of the Best Cities to Raise a Family in 2026, earning an A+ overall grade and an A+ for its public schools. The ranking highlights communities across the country that combine excellent schools, safe neighborhoods, family-friendly amenities, and strong quality of life.
As the report notes, Overland Park stands out for its nationally recognized school districts, more than 80 parks, extensive trail system, and housing options that remain more attainable than many of the other cities on the list. When Homes.com asked local leaders how family priorities have changed in recent years, Libbey Tucker, Senior Vice President of Economic Development at the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce, explained:
“Schools remain the number one reason families choose Overland Park; that hasn’t changed. What has shifted is how closely affordability factors into the conversation. The good news is Overland Park doesn’t force families to choose one or the other: our housing market spans a wide range of price points, so a top-rated school district doesn’t have to mean an out-of-reach price tag.”
The original article from Homes.com also recognizes that the best places to raise a family offer more than great schools. They provide access to career opportunities, recreation, community events, and the everyday experiences that help people feel at home. Overland Park continues to earn national recognition because it brings all of those pieces together in one community.
